Hi, I´m Armando Dias da Silva, a Portuguese orthodontics specialist with practice in Oporto and it’s an honor to publish my first case in this group.
This 25yrs old male patient was one of my first MARPE treatments; once you start to use CBCT on a routine basis you´ll immediately begin to diagnose much more true skeletal transverse discrepancies than before because they were clinically camouflaged by molar torque compensations.
So, you then realize that maxillary endognathy must be treated in its origin, addressing the skeletal transverse discrepancy issue, and not by dental expansion with expanded arch wires or aligners.
Dental expansion to camouflage skeletal transverse discrepancy will increase instability and possible periodontal issues.
Diagnosis is the key…
Thank you very much to Dr. Domingo Martin Salvador and Dr. Iñigo Gómez Bollain for this invitation.
All comments will be welcome.
Hope you like it!
